Here’s the next assistance dog I want to bring to your attention: Kuno the Service Rottie in Edmonton, Canada.
Kuno died on 9/1/2025, leaving his double-amputee human, Marla, heartbroken. Edmonton City News reported on Kuno’s passing here. Kuno had a huge following in Canada, and was much loved. Marla trained him herself, to do everything from collecting her mail to helping her in and out of her wheelchair – his size gave her the stability she needed. Kuno was a public advocate for inclusivity and accessibility, and people noticed because his advocacy came from a dog’s perspective. Marla has been training her young dog, Chesnyy, for a while now, but Kuno was her rock. Please see Kuno on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_oKZe26_IM

Kuno’s Twitter posts are about his WoofsOfWisdom, including this: Start each day with a good morning nose kiss. Make sure to lie somewhere that blocks their path so they remember to tell you how handsome you are. Get excited about that walk even if it’s only 2 minutes long because it’s -40. Look like you’re listening when they complain about problems then bring them a ball or a tug rope because that gets rid of problems. Shove their hand into ear rubbing position. Take up lots of bed space so they can appreciate how heavy you are. And always remind them how important you are because if they’re busy thinking you’re amazing, then they aren’t wasting time finding reasons to be miserable. This is how you keep a human trainable.
